Sakura

We came for sakura, the Japanese cherry blossom season, awaiting the bud burst as I entered the beginning of my third trimester. The whole country waited in anticipation of the first blooms. Bloggers checked in on lodestar trees at key points in Tokyo: once those started blooming, the whole city would follow. It was a cold year, so we only caught the very beginning. Everything was in full bloom two weeks after we had returned home, but the quiet beauty of anticipation stayed with us. And images of ikebana, moss gardens, beautiful wood joinery fixing together knotty imperfections in gnarled pieces of wood.
